What Is an Acknowledgment?

An acknowledgment verifies that the signer willingly signed the document and confirmed their identity before the notary.

What Is a Jurat?

A jurat requires the signer to personally appear before the notary, swear or affirm that the contents of the document are true, and sign in the notary's presence.

Oaths & Affirmations

Some legal documents require an oath or affirmation before they become legally effective.

Certified Copies

During this process, the notary administers a verbal oath or affirmation confirming that the signer is telling the truth.

Some states allow notaries to certify copies of certain documents, while others restrict or prohibit this service.

If certified copies are permitted under your state's laws, we'll explain what documents may qualify before your appointment.

Vital Records (birth certificates, marriage certificates, and death certificates) cannot be certified by a notary. Certified copies must be obtained from the issuing government agency.

Before Your Appointment

Please have:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID

  • Your unsigned document (unless instructed otherwise)

  • All required signers present

  • Any required witnesses (or request witness services when scheduling)

  • Payment confirmation

What We Cannot Do

To protect you and comply with state law, we cannot:

  • Provide legal advice

  • Explain or interpret legal documents

  • Choose which notarial certificate you need

  • Notarize incomplete documents

  • Notarize without the signer being present

  • Accept expired or unacceptable identification

  • Accept photo copy or paper identification

  • Make Certified Copies of Vital Records
